Photo-shoot for a client

This was a job of two parts – first I had to shoot the background which in its self wasn’t straight forward. It was a cold and dark early morning and I needed to be in readiness for the sun rise and the mist across the meadows. The location was on a busy A road and I had to park in a lay-by then walk 50 meters along that road in the dark. A bit dodgy to say the least. Once set up, it was that cold wait with anticipation as to whether or not the clouds and sun combined would provide me with a great image. The wait was worth it and all was as hoped. The shot was made up of four images which were stitched in Photoshop so as to give that panoramic shot.

A few days later it was back to the studio to shoot the group of bottles and glasses making sure the lighting came from the same direction of the sun in the background image. Then post production to merge it all together with the final image having the clients name and contact number etc.

Chilling in the Jungle

When it gets hot in the Brazilian jungle, there’s only one way to get cool, and that’s a cold shower. So,  that’s what we did 😀

This is a waterfall which is about 10 metres high and was soooo cool and just up the road from where my son Marc lives.

Grape picking in Brazil

Ok here we are in the middle of a vineyard picking grapes – well not me exactly someone has to take the photos. The vineyard owner usually has a team of  about ten or so pickers, some from the community and some who come in just for the harvest time. These guys start early before it’s too hot and work really hard to bring in the grapes. It’s back breaking work and I have a lot of respect for them.

Brazilian Community

After an extremely hard and hot day, the grape picking comes to an end and the weary locals head for the community centre where they relax by playing cards and drinking cold beer. They use Spanish cards and play a game which is complicated and impossible to understand to an outsider like myself.

After spending some time there, I was invited to help pick grapes tomorrow and to take my camera so I can capture the men and women harvesting their crops. I’m really looking forward to that even though I know it’s going to be hot! See you there 😀

Terry Croom (In the Jungle)

Hello from the Jungle

Hello

I’m currently staying in a small and beautiful community called Linha Dolorata which is a wine making community set in the jungles of Southern Brazil. This area is part of the much under rated wine making regions of Brazil and produces some very fine wines and especially Champagnes. It is reported that the Champagne produced here is as good as, if not superior to, that of French Champagne which is quite an achievement in my opinion (still need to sample it though).

I have enclosed an image of the area and you can just see in the center of the picture  Rio Taquari rs a huge river which runs from  the extreme east of the Planalto dos Campos Gerais, where it is still known as Rio das Antas. On the bank of the river you can just make out a small and remote vineyard behind the trees. There are many remote and not so remote vineyards which cover a huge area of Southern Brazil and the inhabitants who run them originate from many parts of Europe such as Italy, Poland and Germany.

Stay tuned guys and I’ll add content as and when I am able 😀

Off to Brazil

Hello everyone

Tomorrow I’m off to Brazil for three weeks. I’ve spent the last two days preparing and it’s just amazing how long the most basic things take. I’m carrying a full back pack of kit which uses so many batteries and I’ve spent the best part of today charging them. Anyway, I’m ready so I will hopefully be relaying my progress as and when it happens so stay tuned guys 😀 Next time I post, I should be in Southern Brazil (wine district) shooting wine production of Brazil

What a way to start the New Year

See you then and Happy New Year to you all 😀

Cheers
